Min Hospital has reached a cumulative total of 1,500 metabolic and bariatric surgeries, demonstrating its treatment system as a specialized medical institution. The hospital’s tailored surgical process, which carefully considers each patient’s metabolic condition, is regarded as a key factor behind its growing clinical outcomes.

Metabolic and bariatric surgery at Min Hospital aims not only for weight reduction but also for the fundamental improvement of metabolic diseases, including diabetes. In clinical outcomes involving patients with early-stage diabetes, the hospital has reported a complete remission rate of 87 percent. These results clinically demonstrate that metabolic surgery can serve as a practical alternative beyond conventional medication-based treatment. A major reason for this outcome is the hospital’s precision-based process, in which each patient’s disease stage and metabolic condition are thoroughly analyzed before selecting the most appropriate surgical method.

In particular, Min Hospital was among the first in Korea to introduce and implement sleeve gastrectomy with ileal bypass (SASI), pioneering a surgical field focused on the treatment of diabetes itself. The hospital currently performs a full spectrum of metabolic and bariatric procedures, including sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, duodenal bypass, jejunal bypass, and sleeve gastrectomy with ileal bypass. This capability reflects the institution’s ability to treat not only patients with obesity but also those with diabetes across a wide range of conditions.

Postoperative management is another key strength of Min Hospital. The hospital operates a 24-hour one-on-one intensive care system after surgery to help prevent complications and support rapid recovery. In addition, it maintains university hospital–level laparoscopic operating rooms and anesthesia equipment optimized for metabolic surgery, providing a stable surgical environment even for complex procedures. A fast-track system for patients traveling from outside the region also improves treatment accessibility and efficiency.

The hospital’s medical team has also received formal recognition for its contributions to the advancement of metabolic and bariatric surgery in Korea. The team received the Outstanding Paper Award from the Korean Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Led by certified metabolic and bariatric surgeons Dr. Kim Jong-min and Dr. Sung Jong-je, Min Hospital continues to operate a systematic treatment framework as an officially certified metabolic and bariatric surgery center.

Dr. Kim Jong-min, Director of Min Hospital, stated that achieving 1,500 cases represents an important milestone. He added that the hospital will continue to establish new standards in obesity and diabetes treatment through precise patient selection, personalized surgical strategies, and comprehensive postoperative management.
