According to Min Hospital, a delegation comprising surgical specialists from Saudi Arabia and China recently visited its main hospital located in Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. This visit served as an opportunity to share Min Hospital's accumulated clinical expertise in bariatric and metabolic surgery with international medical professionals, with the overarching goal of establishing a global medical professional education network. This program was a direct continuation of Min Hospital's ongoing commitment to actively standardize bariatric and metabolic surgical techniques, prioritizing patient safety, both within Korea and globally.
The visiting delegation directly observed a Single Anastomosis Sleeve Ileal Bypass (SASI) procedure, which was performed by Hospital Director Kim Jong-min. They had the opportunity to witness the entire clinical process in real-time, from the rigorous pre-operative patient evaluation phase to the systematic surgical procedures and comprehensive strategies for preventing complications, thereby learning Min Hospital's highly advanced surgical expertise. It was reported that they showed particular interest in the surgical technique design, which places patient safety as the utmost priority, and the hospital's systematic post-operative recovery management system.
Min Hospital has already received recognition for its pioneering work, including being the first in Korea to perform the Single Anastomosis Sleeve Ileal Bypass. Consequently, it has been designated as a 'M.A.S.T.E.R. Institute' by Johnson & Johnson MedTech and an 'Accredited Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Hospital' by the Korean Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Leveraging these accreditations, Min Hospital is actively operating professional educational programs in bariatric and metabolic surgery for medical professionals both domestically and internationally.
Furthermore, Min Hospital is actively establishing a patient-centered treatment system where an endocrine surgeon directly oversees the entire process, encompassing consultation, examination, surgery, post-operative follow-up, and comprehensive nutrition and lifestyle management. Drawing upon its cumulative clinical experience of over 1,500 cases of diabetes bariatric and metabolic surgery, the hospital performs customized surgeries that comprehensively consider each patient's unique constitution, diabetes type, and pancreatic function status.
Hospital Director Kim Jong-min stated, "Min Hospital, as a specialized institution focusing on diabetes metabolic surgery, possesses the capability to perform a wide range of sleeve-based bypass surgeries. Our expertise extends beyond conventional sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass to include procedures such as duodenal bypass, proximal jejunal bypass, and sleeve-ileal bypass." He further emphasized, "Our distinct strength lies in our ability to maximize treatment efficacy and significantly lower recurrence rates by carefully selecting the optimal surgical method from a total of five distinct procedures, tailored precisely to each patient's individual BMI, duration of diabetes, and pancreatic function."
