Min Hospital announced that it provided an opportunity to share its accumulated clinical capabilities and standardized surgical processes through a bariatric and metabolic surgery observation program, which saw the participation of surgical specialists from Saudi Arabia and China.
According to Min Hospital, a delegation comprising surgical specialists from Saudi Arabia and China recently visited its main facility located in Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. This visit served as an occasion to share Min Hospital's extensive clinical expertise in bariatric and metabolic surgery with international medical professionals, with the overarching goal of establishing a global network for medical staff education. This initiative was undertaken as a direct continuation of Min Hospital's ongoing efforts to actively standardize bariatric and metabolic surgical techniques, both domestically and internationally, with a paramount focus on patient safety.
The visiting delegation directly observed a Sleeve Ileal Bypass (SASI, Single Anastomosis Sleeve Ileal Bypass) procedure, which was performed by Hospital Director Kim Jong-min. They meticulously observed the entire clinical process in real-time, encompassing everything from the stringent pre-operative patient evaluation phase to the systematic surgical procedures and comprehensive strategies for preventing complications, thereby gaining insight into Min Hospital's highly advanced surgical expertise. It was particularly noted that they expressed significant interest in the surgical technique design, which places patient safety as the utmost priority, as well as the systematic post-operative recovery management system.
Min Hospital has already received recognition for its pioneering history, including being the first in the nation to perform the Sleeve Ileal Bypass procedure. Consequently, it has been designated as a 'Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Certified' hospital by the Korean Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and has also been recognized by the Johnson & Johnson MedTech 'M.A.S.T.E.R. Institute'. Leveraging these accreditations, the hospital is actively operating specialized educational programs in bariatric and metabolic surgery for both domestic and international medical professionals.
Furthermore, Min Hospital is actively establishing a patient-centered treatment system where an endocrine surgeon directly oversees and manages the entire process, including initial consultation, diagnostic examinations, surgical procedures, post-operative follow-up observations, and comprehensive nutrition and lifestyle management. Drawing upon its cumulative clinical experience of over 1,500 cases in diabetes bariatric and metabolic surgery, the hospital performs highly customized surgeries that comprehensively take into account each patient's unique constitution, the specific type of diabetes, and the current status of their pancreatic function.
Hospital Director Kim Jong-min stated, "Min Hospital, as a specialized institution focusing on diabetes metabolic surgery, is equipped with a comprehensive system capable of performing a wide array of sleeve-based bypass surgeries, extending beyond just sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. This includes procedures such as duodenal bypass, proximal jejunal bypass, and sleeve ileal bypass." He further emphasized, "Our key strength lies in our ability to select the most optimal surgical method from a total of five distinct procedures, tailored precisely to each patient's Body Mass Index (BMI), the duration of their diabetes, and their pancreatic function. This personalized approach allows us to maximize treatment efficacy and significantly reduce recurrence rates."
