Sudden Hematuria and Burning Sensation in Women: Is it Cystitis or Urethritis?

Female / Patient2026. 01. 23.

I developed a sudden, severe burning sensation and hematuria (blood in urine) at the end of urination. I haven't had sexual intercourse. The blood has decreased after a day of drinking lots of water, but the burning persists. Am I self-healing? Are there over-the-counter medications I should take? I am hesitant to visit a medical facility.

Even without sexual history, women can experience acute cystitis (bladder infection) or urinary tract infections. Hematuria at the end of urination suggests significant irritation of the bladder mucosa. While water intake helps flush some bacteria, it may not completely eliminate the infection. If the root cause is not treated, it can recur or lead to a more serious kidney infection. I strongly advise a formal evaluation and a course of antibiotics to ensure a full recovery.
