Is it normal to have a scab after frenulum removal in circumcision?

It’s been about one month since my circumcision, and I also had a frenulum removal procedure at the same time.

All the stitches have fallen out, but now I see what looks like a black scab where the frenulum was cut.

Is it okay to leave the area without a bandage now?

Also, when I get an erection, is there a chance that the scab could come off and bleed?

Hello, this is Dr. Changki Lee from Goldman Urology Clinic, Incheon.

If it has been about one month since your circumcision and frenulum removal, the healing process is generally well underway.

The black scab you are seeing at the surgical site is most likely a normal part of the healing process, specifically a dried blood clot. If there is no pain, swelling, or discharge, it is generally safe to leave the area uncovered without a bandage.

However, until the tissue has fully healed, erections may cause the skin to stretch, which can irritate the scab. In some cases, the scab may come off and cause minor bleeding, but at this stage of recovery, this is usually not a major concern.

It is important not to forcibly remove the scab, and instead allow it to fall off naturally.

If you notice increased swelling, pain, or signs of infection, it would be advisable to visit a urology clinic for further evaluation.

At our clinic, we carefully assess each patient’s condition and provide accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans.

Identifying the cause is the first step toward effective treatment.

If your symptoms persist, we recommend seeking medical evaluation.

Thank you, and we hope this information was helpful.
