I’m a 21-year-old male.
For the past few years, very occasionally during sex or masturbation, I’ve heard a popping sound from my penis.
Last week during intercourse, I heard the sound 2–3 times, and then I lost my erection immediately.
Now I can still get erections, but they feel slightly weaker, with reduced rigidity and maintenance.
Even morning erections don’t feel 100% firm.
Could this be a corpus cavernosum injury or penile fracture?
Should I go to the hospital?

Hello, this is Dr. Changki Lee from Goldman Urology Clinic, Incheon.
Hearing a popping sound during intercourse followed by sudden loss of erection can indicate that mechanical stress was applied to the penile tissues, including the tunica albuginea or the corpus cavernosum.
A complete penile fracture typically presents with severe pain, rapid swelling, and visible deformity. However, in some cases, there may be minor or partial injury, which may not show obvious external signs but can still lead to reduced erection quality or rigidity.
Based on your symptoms—especially the change in erection strength and maintenance—it is difficult to rule out a subtle injury to the erectile tissue or vascular structures.
If left unexamined, such conditions may contribute to long-term erectile dysfunction.
We recommend visiting a urology clinic for further evaluation, which may include penile ultrasound or blood flow assessment, to determine the exact cause and guide appropriate treatment.
At our clinic, we carefully assess each patient’s condition and provide accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans.
Identifying the cause is the first step toward effective treatment.
If your symptoms persist, we strongly recommend seeking medical evaluation.
Thank you, and we hope this information was helpful.
